Convert the 1.5 Liter 7-11 Extreme Gulp into a 3 liter refill machine - simply dremel out the insulation. |
Cameron and I were frequent visitors to the new 7-11 which opened down the street from our dorm. We found that it was a great deal to buy the big mug and carry it to the store every visit for a refill. After a few weeks we decided that the insulation was taking up a lot of room, room that could be used for soda. So, we dremeled it out.
We dremeled around the edge and were able to, with pliers, tear out the internal plastic layer. Under that is a high density foam, which is somewhat of a pain to breakup and remove, but it didn't stick to the edges, so that was nice.
The mug originally held 7 Cups of water, or 1.66 Liters, after the conversion it holds, 13.5 cups of water, or 3.2 Liters of soda. That's double the original capacity!
A refill of 3 liters of soda for $0.89 is not a bad deal. From all external appearances it looks like you are filling up the original mug, except it takes forever to fill at the fountain.
