Need power for something? In your car? Have no fear, mains power is here! |
Yet another auto related modification... This one is kinda nice...
What: 150 watt continuous power inverter - good for small TVs, laptop charger(s), cell phone charger... whatever you can think of that draws less than 150 watts.
Why?: I really really don't want to buy car chargers for everything. But I did already have a power inverter. I always plugged it into my 12v socket and plug my cell phone charger in that. But that does not look pretty (unless you are a thief). So I placed the inverter into an empty DIN slot.
How: Made a fiberglass cover - the front plate of the inverter came off, the fiberglass panel was placed behind that, and then the plate was screwed back on. I made a small aluminum bracket and used a mounting point for the dash as a support. I ran 14ga (I think) wire to the battery. Blah blah blah - a little mess up and tada!
I still need to finish it to make it look pretty (trim and paint). But thus far it has been a good little inverter.
The middle picture shows what it looks like before (if you can tell) - it was just a useless tiny DIN shelf. But more people are distracted by the gong I made from some scrap mahogany and attached with museum gel (great stuff if you can find it). The gong serves as "The Bump-O-Meter." I place the hammer in a hole drilled just in front of the gong. When I hit a moderate bump - ding ding ding! Its just a good conversation piece
